Pelvic Floor (pubococcygeal) muscles are a group of muscles which form a "sling" beneath the bladder and rectum. One of the primary causes for a loss of conditioning or strength of these muscles is the stress placed upon them by vaginal delivery. Age and hormonal changes during and post menopause as well as obesity are all factors which can contribute to weakening of these muscles. This can lead to incontinence and reduced sexual function.
